Indie pop duo, The Drums, are back with a new single, “Meet Me in Mexico”. The duo had released a new album in June 2017, Abysmal Thoughts. This track was written and released in light of the recent earthquakes throughout Mexico. All proceeds are reportedly going to two different organizations, Reconstruir Mexico and Lago Tanganica 67, to help the relief efforts to rebuild affected areas. The Drums lead singer, Jonathan “Jonny” Pierce had said that much of the fanbase comes from Mexico and wants to support them in a time of need.

The lyrics are a unique mixture of both English and Spanish. The track features a dance, electronic-pop sound with drums, guitar, and a synthesizer. The band also features a distinct reverb sound in most of their work. Towards the end of the track, the lyrics read, “I can’t dance with these dumb americans/(No puedo bailar con estos gringos locos)/I can’t party with these dumb Americans/ (No puedo festejar con estos tontos gringos).”

Pierce claims that the record was written during a frustrating time he endured with America’s current political climate, which explains the mentioned lyrics and throughout the track. Pierce said, “I wrote this song when I had reached a mountaintop of frustration with Donald Trump and his Country Club of Dumb Americans.”

Unfortunately, the duo won’t be touring in most of the United States before May. The Drums will begin touring with Alvvays in April throughout California, including Coachella Music and Arts Festival. The band will also tour in Mexico and South America through May. Fingers crossed for a North American tour by year’s end.
