Plastic Taste is a song that feels like a late high school night after a fight with your girlfriend. A somber piano slumps through the song, akin to tossing and turning in a bed that refuses you any comfort. The tinny percussion clacks along unrelentingly, almost as a tick that one would use to help cope with anxiety such as clicking your nails on a dresser or flexing your toes absentmindedly.

Joji’s plea “excuse me for my plastic taste” echoes throughout the track as an internal monologue. Plastic taste refers to when somebody acts a way they shouldn’t act, say, they were rude to you and then they regret it. Joji is perhaps singing about how he acted towards a lover, perhaps neglecting to give them attention or other toxic types of behavior.

George Miller, Joji’s true name, has gone through an extreme development over the past years. Miller initially rose to stardom as the infamous internet persona, Filthy Frank, where he made crude humor videos and notably started the Harlem Shake phenomenon. Yes, THE Harlem Shake.

During his time as Filthy Frank, a second persona emerged, Pink Guy. Pink Guy was a trap music project based on a character in Miller's skits. After releasing Pink Season, a LP under the Pink Guy moniker, Miller refrained from creating more Pink Guy music. After a growing dissatisfaction with his career, Miller shed Frank’s skin and arrived in his current self, Joji.
